So Be It! The Concept of “Flow”
We hear a lot of “tawk” about the concept or idea of “Flow”. These days. Peak performance athletes can almost always point to a day, an event, a moment when they were “on”. When things just happened for them and through them without thought, or “efforting”.
When a song is demanding that I write it, I usually am in a state of “flow”. Most artists, poets and writers can talk about that. Most entrepreneurs are familiar with it as well.
The thing is that many people think it’s something that happens for other people. But it actually happens all the time for all of us, what I think often happens is that we don’t enter “flow” because we have too many other things to do on our little “to do lists”.
so yesterday, I started out with a ton of stuff on my “to do list” but it just was not meant to be.
I felt a deep overwhelming need to do absolutely NOTHING. All damn day.
I did not get a significant thing accomplished. My body had had enough of “doing” and needed a shot of “being”.
And so I stopped fighting it and just relaxed. Chilled out. Rested. Entered into a blissful state of peace and groovyness.
Ahhhhhhhhh.
After 3 months of almost constant travel and work, a day off seemed like a good thing. And it was.
I didn’t sit around reading books or watching movies or playing games to distract or occupy myself. I just sat by my wood stove and reflected on where I have been in the last two 90 day challenges and imagined ahead to the next one.
Back in March when I first attempted to do my weekly Transformation Tuesday events, I could barely get 3-5 people to show up. Back in March I also was not really thinking about expanding my school performances and programs beyond the Northeast.
Reflecting back on that journey and the personal demons that came up to test me, and the energy and resolve that have been steadily building…
reflecting back on the coaching and mastermind I’ve been doing with Kim Seltzer and Jason Capital and the Sold out Concert on Nov. 19th, the gigs in CT, SC and Queens. It’s clear that I am on my path and purpose. But I am a long, long way from being “done”.
This “Reflect, Review and Renew” process ain’t about resting on “laurels”. It’s about staying true to the dream, true to the vision and true to your deepest “Heart Math” about your Path.
One thing I did watch was an extensive interview with a guy named Peter Sage who is a “serial entrepreneur”. His most recent project is to harness solar energy from space and beam it down to earth. A pretty big project by any metric. And strangely enough what he talked about the most in the interview was meditation, his morning rituals, and the concept of “flow”.
There’s a time to take action and there’s a time to reflect on actions taken and a time to reflect on what the next steps towards “being on purpose” with your life and work is… For me that was yesterday.
Now let’s tawk about YOU!
YOUR “Modern Jedi Mind Mastery” assignment today (should you choose to accept it) is to reflect on where you are in YOUR life and where you would most want to be at this time next year or in 90 days or whatever. There are no hard and fast rules about this. And maybe today is not the right day for you to take some time for YOU. But the next opportunity you have to spend some time in “quiet mode” grab it! or rather, ALLOW it. This is not you “wasting time” this is you participating in a very, very, very deep level in your own adventure story. Make sure that you are writing one well worth living.
Of course if you want to just wait until New Year’s day to slap something together like you did last year that’s fine too. The only question is, How’s that working? Are you open to taking every area of your life to the next level in 2017? Because NOW is the time to get started on that. And we are gearing up over here for a serious mastermind of folks who are serious about personal mastery and self improvement.
I’d love for you to be a part of it. Just hit reply to this email if you want to be in on it with a few other select, action taking, self investing peak performers… But as always it’s totally up to you and there’s no obligation. It may not be the right time for you.
Here’s Today’s Transformation Tune to get you started.
peace and groovyness!
– Mark
