I Do Not Believe In The Ocean Song #355

Ok. This one is a deep one. Pun intended. I wrote it in 2006 after a single date with a lovely woman who I was convinced was “the One.” She wasn’t interested even in another date… I was devastated… it wasn’t just that disappointment, my brief 2nd marriage had ended a year or so before that and my mother was dying of cancer…  (yesterday was the anniversary of her death. her pictures are on the wall behind me as I sing in the video)

The sadness we often feel as human beings is often part of the healing process. As a songwriter, I can’t lock these intense emotions out of my being… the only way out is THROUGH… (as I need to remind myself too often sometimes…)

It’s about a lot of things… But mostly it’s about taking the energy of failed relationships (or ones that were discontinued for healthy reasons) and using it to “fertilize” and learn so that the next relating “practice” session can be something better than the old pattern(s).

In Modern Jedi Mind Mastery (aka hypnosis and NLP) we demonstrate one of the ways your unconscious mind works by saying, “Don’t think of a blue tree…”

The point is your unconscious mind can’t process a negative concept. I do not believe in the ocean. (um… really? it’s kind of THERE isn’t it?) same with sky and mountains… so whether you believe in love or not, like the other real features of our world… it’s kind of hard to deny.

And yet, when we’ve been hurt or are experiencing hurt around relating, we often try to deny that it’s even possible for love to exist… The real lie is the one we tell ourselves that a. “this always happens” or b. “it’s the other person’s fault. they HURT ME.”

and the other lies like, a. This next person will be better. or b. I will never love again.

The bottom line is that we are here in these meat suits to experience the full physical realm of pleasure and yes, pain.

NOW to you get why I’m not a pop star with this music? :o)

Ultimately the more I love myself and give myself the kind of love that encourages my freedom of musical expression the more I can LOVE you…

I Do Not Believe In The Ocean

Song #355   |   8/272006   | recorded 9/18/2019

I do not believe in the ocean
I do not believe in the sky
I do not believe in the mountains
And I do not believe in Love’s lie

Refrain:
I tore myself to pieces
On the last woman I loved
I tore myself to pieces
And that should have been lesson enough
It should have been lesson enough

Every Time I approach it
It seems to get farther away
Every time I approach it
It takes more than I’ve got left to pay

Refrain:

The Siren sound of her voice
Punctures my soul like a dart
So lash me to the mast boys
E’re again I lose my heart

Refrain:

Look at yourself in the mirror
Someday you are destined to die
If you look at your life any clearer
You might dare to believe in love’s lie

Refrain:

I do not believe in the ocean
I do not believe in the sky
I do not believe in the mountains
And I do not believe in Love’s lie
