Process over Product

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the difference between “process” and “product.” As an artist its the PROCESS that inspires me and causes me to continue to create. Once I create a product, be it a course, a song, a CD, a short film, etc. I’m done. Booom! Off to the next project. I create the best I can with what I have at that time and then it’s done. Released. Published. Sold. Whatever.

For me, the creative Process is always calling for more… new… different… exploring… experimenting… a ravenous, insatiable curiosity to learn and express, connect the dots, synthesize and transform.

It’s a process that is never, ever satisfied… with whatever has gone before…

Version 1. February 2018 Proto-type version…

This “Living Room Session” felt so good that it got me thinking that it would be AWESOME to have Joe Mennonna work his arranging magic for a fully produced studio version of the song… and also started me thinking about getting my own drone and GoPro action camera to start visually capturing images and “b-roll” that would be useable with my music videos….

Version 2. Black and White

I wanted to “nail” the performance. There is no lip-syncing here. I THOUGHT it would look really cool to be ACTUALLY singing the ACTUAL final vocal track rather than attempt to do lip-syncing. I HATE lip-syncing because it looks so fake. I want to see real music being made by real humans and I want real humans to see me making real music.

Version 3. Black and White with color b roll.

Here I wanted to add some visuals that would help to “lock in” the message of the song without getting in the way of the message or the performance. I kept the performance shots in black and white and used the action clips to add splashes of color…

Version 4. Live as part of a Sound Healing Hypnosis Session. (This one isn’t edited yet so check back soon or join my email list to be among the first to get notified of this one’s release when it’s ready).

Same song. Different experiences, different nuances, different colors.

Another word for it is “freedom.”

  • Creative freedom.
  • Artistic freedom.
  • Freedom to learn.
  • Freedom to “fail” your way forward, learning all the way…

Process over Product I believe, leads to better “products.” We will talk about this again soon I’m sure….
