ok. got that out of the way.
NOW. ABOUT THAT HOLY GROUND STUFF….
There’s a cool old story about this guy from a long, long, long time ago… He was really shy and introverted. But smart. Aware. A deep well of a person.
And one day he was out with the goats or sheep or whatever and there was this bush that was on fire but wasn’t being consumed by the fire.
He walked over to it to see what was going on and a voice came out of the bush. “Dude! take off your shoes! You are walking on HOLY ground.”
So Moses followed that “suggestion” and the rest is history.
Hold this image in your mind for a moment. Being “on fire” but not being “Consumed by the fire”. That’s a powerful state to cultivate.
But that’s not why I told you the story. I told you THAT story to tell you THIS story:
I’m in San Diego, California and since I’m still on East Coast time, I was wide awake early.
I figured out how to download the Uber app to my phone and the guy showed up almost before I put my phone down!
Headed to the Historic Gaslight District where my meetings are going to be. Got here before the sun rose.
Had some breakfast and a chat with some of the locals at a Starbucks and then took a stroll down to the harbor.
I saw these work men getting ready to work on this HUGE super yacht for the day. It looks like one of those mega America’s Cup racing boats…
It’s really stunningly gi-NORMOUS.
What I noticed was that even tho the decks are not yet done, even tho there is obviously a lot of construction still going on under the white tent over the deck, they were taking their shoes off.
HOLY GROUND.
Most of us can’t even imagine the kind of financial resources required to build a boat like the one in the pic. And that’s not the point of this story for you. The point is that they bring so much respect and reverence to their work that they all take their shoes off before stepping aboard.
HOLY GROUND
They don’t just absentmindedly clomp around in their dirty street shoes on the deck of this vessel. They take off their shoes and step aboard like they are walking into a sacred space.
HOLY GROUND
Here’s the point where I turn the story around to YOU.
Is there any part of your life that is so key, so crucial, so important that you metaphorically take your shoes off before you begin? If yes GREAT! if No,
What would it be like if you started every day like that?
It’s called “a Morning Ritual” and my mentor, the guy I’m paying the big bucks to work with this weekend, is deep into the morning ritual thing. In fact he kind of preaches it…
And like a lot of the stuff he teaches, I already do it.
The idea is that if you “own” your mornings, you own your life and business. Everything else falls into place when you start your day the right way.
Well, depending where you are and when you read this, you may have already started your day today. So if you day is already underway, no sweat, sweet heart, do this tomorrow.
Take 5 – 15 minutes and just imagine metaphorically or literally “taking your shoes off in preparation for walking the holy ground of your day”. Breathe. Meditate. Exercise. Sing. Stretch. Walk. Paint. Write. Whatever works to ground and center you, prepare you, energize you for the best day of your life. And begin to practice that EVERY SINGLE DAY.
And to bring this back to November 19th. I want to create the kind of music that causes something to deeply and wonderfully shift in all of us. I want you to be a part of it because it’s part of what I came to this world to contribute to you. But in order for it to happen you have to actually be there in person to feel it. taste it. see it. and HEAR it.
I want to create a musical “holy ground” for all of us to experience something beyond mere music. Something where musicians and audience are creating sacred, healing space together.
HOLY GROUND!
